The Myconian Ambassador is a great option for those looking to avoid the families on the island.

Review

While Santorini caters primarily to adults, Mykonos is a much more family-friendly location. Kids can be seen running about pool decks at just about all of the major hotels, and the main Mykonos Town is a wholesome center of culture and dining. Still, the island maintains a strong reputation for a culture of adult fun, but most of this is now contained in the southern side of the island. People who want to dive headfirst into this culture should consider the Myconian Ambassador.

The property’s location (in the town of Platis Gialos on the southern end of the island) plays the biggest role in the kind of guest that it attracts. Its region acts as an enclave away from the more family-friendly Mykonos Town, and the hotel is within a short walk or drive from many of the island’s best beach clubs, including Scorpios and Nammos. In the evening, this area is buzzing with activity as visitors enjoy the nightlife.

Inside the hotel, the rooms have a number of idiosyncrasies that would turn off any family but seem like extra perks for a young couple. Namely, each of the 75 rooms has either a shower or a tub directly in middle of the room, often right next to the bed. (The showers look like Sci-Fi transporter tubes in an otherwise classically Cycladian aesthetic). The aesthetic throughout is ultra-modern, and the terrace feels like a beachclub with its poolside restaurant and beautiful people. The spa is one of the best on the island, with multiple treatment rooms and three pools (one with salt, one with essential oils, and one with massaging jets) all set underground in a Moroccan-inspired grotto.

All this said, the hotel doesn’t necessarily offer the ultra-luxe experience that some visitors may expect. While the rooms and facilities are beautiful, the hotel is laid out oddly on the hill, and getting to the upper rooms requires taking two elevators located on opposite ends of a dimly lit hallway. However, if you can forgive such minor incongruities, then Myconian Ambassador is a good option--if going to the beach clubs is an important part of your trip, then you may not spend much time in the hotel anyway.

Who Should Stay

While the hotel is not adults-only by policy, the rooms and location mean that it is the perfect place for young adults looking to take advantage of Mykonos’ lively party scene.
