Review

Seemingly straight out of a J.K. Rowling novel, Nira Caledonia pays proper homage to its literary past (it was once the home of author Christopher North). The dark color palates and narrow hallways befit a noble house, with a charming Georgian staircase illuminated by incandescent lightbulbs and large skylights.

Nira’s 28 rooms and suite vary in size but retain the same fresh décor and style. Four garden-level suites are privy to two delightful shared gardens with private terraces, while three “romantic” suites come with oversized Jacuzzi tubs.

The hotel staff members dressed in suspenders and bowties greet clients with warm smiles and friendly conversation and offer round-the-clock food and bar service. Foodies will enjoy the chef-led visit to Edinburgh’s farmer’s market on Sunday mornings when they can pick their own ingredients for a tailor-made dinner that evening.

Who Should Stay

Couples seeking a quiet, no-frills intimate setting, as well as those who will enjoy a peaceful walk through the neighborhood’s quaint green spaces and tourist-free streets.
