Review

Perched up high in a remote location on the northwestern edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands, Nomads Entamanu offers a simple, comfortable tented experience with sweeping views out over the Crater floor. The camp, made up of just six tents with clean lines and contemporary décor, opened in 2016 and operates year round. Each tent has a raised platform deck with views out over the Crater, and two of the tents are family tents with inter-leading bedrooms. The camp operates under a sophisticated ecosystem with generators for power, gas for hot water and WiFi throughout the tents. The design of the property is sustainability-focused, yet stylishly simple with a neutral palette, dark wood furniture and local finishes.

The property sits in the removed Ngorongoro Crater Area Highlands with views over the crater and mountains and is located about a two-hour drive from Lake Manyara airstrip or 3.5 hour drive from Arusha. The 20-minute drive from the access gate down to the Crater floor is very rough and bumpy, but the views out over the valley and of Masaai children leading their cattle along the roadside make up for the road conditions. There are many activities available to guests in the nearby crater, including game drives, private rim walks and visits to nearby Olduvai Gorge, where the first humanoid remains were found, dated to almost 1,000 B.C.

Who Should Stay

Couples and families looking for a simple, contemporary tented camp experience with stunning views over the Crater. Those looking for a luxurious lodge within the crater gates should consider Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
