Review
Pavillon de Gouffern sits on what feels like never-ending grounds that boast swimming pools and more fields behind every thicket. Looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows that seal the first-floor dining area and lounge, one expects a full-on hunting party with hounds to come bounding around the corner any moment. With just 20 rooms, the focus is clearly quality over quantity. Each room as an en-suite bathroom of French limestone, granite or teak wood and color schemes are either brown and black or deep red.
Cuisine is impressive in presentation, flavor and variety of ingredients; a gourmet surf-and-turf selection, from local fresh water and ocean caught fish, to poultry and even game. Set aside at least two hours for the tasting menu.
The surrounding park includes a heated pool (open from May through September) and a fishing pond stocked with trout, perch, pike, carp and trench. Staff will happily arrange activities like hunting excursions, golf or countryside drives in fancy sports cars.
Who Should Stay
