Review

Set along the harbor across from the Harpa Convention Center, the 253-room Reykjavik EDITION is an exciting 5-star addition to the city. Though the property is tucked away from the busiest streets, it is still within walking distance of the city center, making it ideal for exploring on foot. Reykjavik EDITION embodies an Icelandic sense of place while still maintaining the EDITION brand’s contemporary, design-forward feel. This is reflected in the rooms, which are clean and minimalist with Icelandic touches, such as faux-fur rugs, local wool blankets and landscape photographs of the surrounding region. Those looking for a true harbor and landscape view should opt for the corner rooms or suites.

A highlight of the hotel is the impressive culinary program, led by renowned chef Gunnar Karl Gíslasson, previously at Iceland’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, Dill. Reykjavik EDITION’s main restaurant, Tides, serves up daily caught fish, high-quality meat and a variety of locally sourced ingredients and wine pairings in a modern yet hygge setting. Guests can also enjoy the buzzy lobby bar, where it is rumored that if you ask for “the password” you might be given the details to access the gorgeous new speakeasy, TÖLT.

The hotel’s lower levels are home to a nightclub, as well as the EDITION spa, which is fully equipped with a hammam, sauna, steam room and lounge bar, ideal for those looking to unwind. THE ROOF is located on the hotel’s 7th floor and is a great place for a pre-dinner drink and panoramic views of the mountains and ocean surrounding the city.
