Review

After damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017, Rosewood Little Dix Bay took the opportunity to complete a multi-year exhaustive renovation, reopening to guests as the preeminent full-service luxury resort on Virgin Gorda. With low slung structures spread unobtrusively along the pristine half-mile beach, Rosewood Little Dix Bay hearkens back to the natural appearance that Lawrence Rockefeller sought when he first established the property in 1964 as an environmentally minded resort. The interiors of the 80 rooms and villas themselves, however, are minimalist and bright, mostly in whites and neutral shades to make the views of the bay through the sea grape trees the center of attention. Accommodations range from one-bedroom cottages and pool suites to multi-bedroom villas, so there is something to easily accommodate couples, families or friends traveling together.

Most guests though, will spend little time in their room as active visitors often take advantage of the many activities offered on property: snorkeling, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and hobie-cat sailing or a tennis lesson on one of their six courts. They can also head off on further excursions around Virgin Gorda with boat rides to beautiful beaches, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and the excellent kiteboarding and sailing that the archipelago is renowned for. Those interested in more leisurely pursuits may enjoy relaxing on one of the many beach chairs on the Little Dix beach, exploring the well-stocked boutique with items from local Tortola brand Hiho, or having a spa treatment or two at the Senses Spa, which has eight treatment rooms and a hilltop yoga platform with views looking out over the bay.

Little Dix Bay is family-friendly with snorkeling for turtles, miniature complimentary bikes, chef’s garden and the Rosewood Explorers Club that includes child-friendly activities and services throughout the day. Couples are equally catered to in this tranquil setting and can tuck themselves away at the spa infinity pool or sample barrel-aged cocktails at one of the three dining venues on property: Reef House, Pavilion and Sugar Mill. All of which offer inventive and fresh cuisine in their indoor and outdoor spaces overlooking the water. Those looking to dine off property during their stay can easily access one of the local haunts in nearby Spanish Town.

Along with the lovely beach, relaxed and traditional atmosphere and ample activities, the staff at Little Dix Bay is attentive, warm and welcoming; some of the many reasons that draw guests back year after year. Those looking for a flashy or glam scene, or a direct flight from the New York area are better suited elsewhere.

Who Should Stay

With its array of water sports, tennis courts, kids club and other activities, Little Dix Bay is a haven for families. It is also well-suited for couples in search of a laid-back retreat. Those seeking a hip, sceney getaway should look elsewhere.
