Review

Visitors will be familiar with Sanctuary as the company runs lodges in multiple countries on the African continent. Located just within the gates of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and up a small hill in the midst of the forest, the Sanctuary Camp has tent-style accommodations with en-suite bathrooms. Each of the eight tents is equipped with a thatched roof and features two queen-sized beds, a bathtub and cozy details such as sheepskin rugs. Due to its location within the forest, the mountain gorillas can frequently be seen on property, a welcome surprise for guests.

The main areas of the lodge include a dining room and lounge as well as a small treatment room for spa services. All of the common spaces are open-air so guests are often found socializing around a fire pit and sharing dinner at a communal table.

Who Should Stay

Those who want a more rustic experience will be happy in Sanctuary’s tented accommodations. It is also located just across the street from the Ugandan Wildlife association’s staging area for gorilla trekking, which makes early mornings easier.
