Review

Conceived by Athens-based designer Silvina Krontira, the Santa Marina's rooms and public spaces have a beach-elegant look best described as "Greek Ralph Lauren." Situated on a pretty peninsula overlooking Ornos Bay, with its own private grounds and beach, the Santa Marina is an ideal spot for families (the beach is protected from the strong Meltemi summer winds). While all the one hundred and one rooms and suites have sea views, the Honeymoon Suite with its 360-degree views is the true stunner. Three suites and thirteen villas have their own pools and range from two- to seven-bedrooms.

Santa Marina has a variety of dining options for guests to choose from. The Buddha Bar Beach is a lovely spot for lunch or dinner, serving both seafood-heavy Mediterranean cuisine as well as sushi, while the Oasis Pool & Lounge is great for a pick-me-up after lounging at the private beach or the infinity pool. The newest gem on the property is Michelin-starred Jason Atherton’s Mykonos Social—his first ever restaurant in the Mediterranean, which serves delicious Greek cuisine like octopus salad and Mykonos Sea-bream with fennel. Offering all-day dining and a gorgeous view, this chic atmosphere is a great spot for a long lunch or group dinner.

With three swimming pools (including one for children), a floodlit tennis court, a well-equipped gym and Ginkgo Spa—which has five treatment rooms, plus one couples’ suite and a traditional Hammam—the Santa Marina is the best choice on the island for travelers seeking five star amenities. While the property has a fun laid-back bar scene, a stay here allows guests a reprieve from the island's famed party vibe. For those who want a bit more action, there’s a complimentary shuttle service into the main town of Chora and speed boats can be arranged at an additional cost to skip the traffic on land and take guests directly from your private beach to the next best club.

Who Should Stay

Couples or families who favor sophistication, exclusivity and amenities over a bohemian, bare-bones ambiance or a party scene.

Who Should Not Stay

Travelers with mobility issues—the property is spread out over a hill and requires quite a bit of walking from one destination to the next
