External stressors melt away as you walk into the main building of Sensei Lanai. The contrast between the airy, light-wash decor and the building’s historical bones creates a chic and soothing yet homey effect. Aside from the concierge desks lining the front wall, this main area feels more like the living room of a massive manor house than a hotel lobby, and understandably so: the resort is actually a converted pineapple plantation home, harkening back to the days when pineapple farming was the island’s predominant source of income.

Two wings, each with 46 guest rooms, stretching out on either side of the main building, connected by covered outdoor hallway. Rooms are reminiscent of the main building and feel light, beachy and clean. Perhaps the most spectacular features, however, are the ten luxurious spa hales, each one a villa in and of itself spanning 1,000 square-feet, with tropical gardens, sauna, plunge pool, hot tub and indoor and outdoor shower and facilities. Whether or not you take advantage of a spa hale during your time on property, the focus of any trip to Sensei Lanai is wellness.

At check-in, the team offers one-on-one consultations with their experts so guests can craft a curated itinerary for their stay. Options include private training sessions, group fitness and wellness classes, spa treatments and adventurous island activities like golf, zip-lining, hiking and more. There is no shortage of things to do, but take care not to pack your schedule too full—you may find yourself wanting to plan a return trip just to simply be. One could be completely content spending time lazing around one of the property’s two pools or Japanese soaking tubs and walking leisurely through the gardens and around the property to appreciate its impressive sculpture and art collection.
