Review
Opened in 2016, Shangri-La at The Fort provides the perfect soft landing into Manila. The hotel is located in Taguig, outside the busy financial and commercial district of Makati and just 30 minutes by car from the airport.
The hotel and everything around it is brand new; The Fort, also known as Bonifacio Global City, is a former military camp that only in recent years became a major urban development. The buildings are gleaming glass structures, the streets are wide and clean, and the restaurants and shops are a simulacrum of what you’d find in Brooklyn or San Francisco. Of course, this is not your typical Manila; there is a slightly contrived feeling in this urban complex located in a city that is notorious for its chaos and commotion.
Shangri-La at the Fort has 576 luxurious and spacious rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, a muted color palette and marble bathrooms. The hotel has a host of fabulous facilities, including a 24-hour, state-of-the-art fitness center with an indoor basketball court, two tennis courts, an outdoor lap pool and exercise studios offering yoga, Pilates, spinning, boxing and mixed martial arts classes. Families will love the 10,000-sq.-ft. kid’s center, which also offers babysitting services. Shangri-La has seven restaurants, but guests can also walk out to the nearby High Street, a popular area filled with local shops and restaurants.
Who Should Stay
This is the perfect overnight option for travelers looking to stay in Manila before flying to the outer islands. Its convenient location, luxurious rooms and 24-hour, state-of-the-art fitness center are a boon for the jet-lagged.
