Review

Tambo del Inka opened in the Sacred Valley in 2010. With 148 rooms, enough to fill the entire town of Urubamba, it has an inevitable corporate feel and lacks a true, intimate sense of place—though a step into Tambo's backyard, next to the rushing river, brings you right back to your Peruvian surroundings. Everything is sleek and fresh, so the hotel is a good fit for travelers looking for spacious rooms (they range between 400 and 800 square feet) and soaring public spaces (shops, restaurants). The property also has the Sacred Valley's largest spa, where guests can enjoy three indoor pools and a hair salon.

Rooms to Get: The first-floor rooms, with outdoor terraces, are the obvious pick. However, beware there is no vegetation between the terraces and thus no privacy. When choosing a terrace room, opt for the riverside view (back of the hotel) instead of the mountainside, which looks out onto an artificial lagoon.
