Review

History and charm meet sophistication and elegance at The Peninsula Istanbul. The hotel comprises four beautifully restored heritage buildings from the early 1900s, once home to the city’s cruise terminal, passport control center and maritime administrative offices. Spanning 820 feet of waterfront in the historic Karaköy district, The Peninsula Istanbul is just a short walk from the sites (and magic) of the Old Town, without staying in the center of the action.

Celebrated Turkish interior designer Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu and art consultant Çağla Saraç had a vision of fresh, modern interiors while paying homage to the building’s roots and maintaining a strong sense of place. The property features more than 800 works of art (the majority of which are contemporary pieces) with 95 percent of the collection done by Turkish artists.

The property has a diverse offering of room configurations across the 177 guest rooms and 39 suites. Many of the rooms have sweeping floor-to-ceiling views directly (or  indirectly, but perfectly fine) out to the Bosphorus. Other options include direct access to the swimming pool or gardens. All guest rooms have been decorated with Turkish design elements (like wood-and-mother-of-pearl inlay and Marmara marble bathrooms) and include bedside touchscreen technology for lighting and temperature control with round-the-clock access to the dedicated e-concierge service, PenChat.

**Note:**For an ultra-private and opulent stay, book The Peninsula Suite. In addition to the trappings of a typical suite and the high-tech amenities in all of the rooms, The Peninsula Suite comes with a private pool and rooftop (offering unobstructed views over the Bosphorus and Galata Tower) and a glass-house solarium for dining and lounging.

The highlight of the property will be the outdoor pool (opening spring 2023), where guests will enjoy the remarkable stretch of waterfront to its fullest. A poolside restaurant serves tapas-style cuisine for lunch and dinner. The standout dining option is Gallada, the Turk-Asian fusion rooftop restaurant from chef Fatih Tutak (whose nearby Turk Fatih Tutak restaurant has two Michelin stars). It's also the perfect spot for a sundowner where East meets West.

Don’t miss a visit to the impressive Peninsula Spa & Wellness Centre. At a gargantuan 8,200 square feet and covered in Turkish marble, it feels light and bright, despite being situated in the basement. With an 82-foot indoor swimming pool, eight private treatment rooms, two Turkish hammams, separate saunas and men’s and women’s relaxation rooms, multiple visits may be in order. The adjacent spacious fitness center has state-of-the-art cardio and resistance-training equipment, as well as a regular schedule of fitness classes, workshops and regionally distinctive guided activities.
