Review

A sharp contrast to the skyscraper mega-hotels that populate Singapore, the 37-room Warehouse Hotel is located in a low-slung former gowdon (warehouse) that dates back to the 1890s. The hotel, situated on a prime piece of riverfront, is a short walk from Clarke Quay, a pedestrian-friendly area loaded with restaurants. The historic brick building retains its original architecture, and thoughtful nods to the building’s history are found throughout. The high-design lobby has a bar, vaulted ceilings, camel-colored leather furniture and metal gears and pulleys that hang from the ceiling like an art installation.

The 37 rooms vary in size, but all have an industrial-cool aesthetic with concrete accent walls, army green rugs and headboards and wrought-iron fixtures. The bathroom products are 100 percent organic and the mini bar is stocked with curated snacks like spicy seaweed chips, sunflower and pumpkin clusters and dark chocolate bars from cocoa farmers in the Mekong Delta. The rooms with river views are preferable (avoid the Warehouse Sanctuary rooms, which don’t have windows).

The restaurant, Po, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, is a destination, whether or not you are staying at the hotel. Don’t miss the signature dish, the popiah (spring roll) platter, which comes with spring roll wrappers, stewed pork and vegetable filling and an array of toppings (chili sauce, crushed peanuts, ground garlic) for patrons to assemble themselves. While there is no spa or gym, the Warehouse has a tiny infinity pool overlooking the river and complimentary bikes.
