Review

Situated on the shores of Lake Geneva along Geneva harbor, The Woodward was originally built in 1901 by French architect François Durel, in a post-Haussmann style. It has since been thoughtfully reimagined by architect Pierre-Yves Rochon–also responsible for Indagare favorites, Hotel du Cap in the South of France, Four Seasons George V in Paris and The Savoy in London, among others. The deliberate mixed materials in the decor would seem disparate, but they blend effortlessly into a bright, playful but easy visual feast.

Walking into The Woodward is at first unassuming. You’re greeted by friendly doormen at the street-level entry doorway as the harbor breeze whips around you, but a few steps inside, you enter an almost Wonka-like cherry red and regal gold elevator that takes you to the beguiling main lobby with a comfortable sitting area, attentive and welcoming staff and glimpses into the emerald crown jewel restaurant of the hotel, vegetable forward Le Jardinier.

The suites are the definition of chic–elegant and stylish, with a certain timelessness that makes you feel instantly at home. Attached balconies overlook Lake Geneva with sailboats passing by in the warmer weather. Italian wood, clean German design influences and French details make this property a perfect reflection of both the Swiss and international culture surrounding it. A tablet awaits on every nightstand, from which you can control your lighting, temperature, room service and more. Your suite will provide a perfect amount of comfort, luxury, and privacy after a long day of exploring the city. Connecting suites can create multi-bedroom abodes for families and entire floors can easily be privatized.

The Woodward Geneva provides a relaxing, modern European escape in an unassuming city with much more to offer than one might traditionally expect. Geneva is, of course, known for its international organizations, luxury watches and decadent chocolate, but it also offers an worldly flair that few other European cities can claim. The hotel is connected to local tastemakers; boating excursions, fishing experiences, wine-tastings, world class hiking, dinner on Mont Blanc and more await you just steps from this stunning property.
