It’s hard to imagine a more romantic (and nostalgic) way to travel by train: the eight recently unveiled new suites of the Venice Simplon-Orient- Express pay homage to the golden age of train travel and date back to 1926. Several train cars have been masterfully restored by craftspeople in France in classic Art Deco style complete with original Lalique glass panels, but with en suite bathrooms and newly configured layouts. The suites draw design inspiration from the various landscapes the train travels through: mountains, lakes and forests. Of course, extravagant cuisine is served around the clock, expertly prepared by world-renowned chefs in the onboard kitchen. This iconic train manages a seemingly impossible feat: maintaining a sense of place while moving between cities at 100 miles per hour. The journey itself is all part of the experience.

The Standout: The revamped Grand Suites that honor the train’s Art Deco history

**Don’t Miss:**The new overnight route to the French Alps, between Paris and Courchevel (including a chauffeured ride to the station, three meals on board and other special perks)
