Review

Housed in two separate buildings located just off Dam Square, the W Amsterdam is one of the city’s hottest places to see-and-be-seen, regardless of whether you are staying there or just visiting for drinks or dinner. The main building, which is located in the old Telephone Exchange Building that dates back to 1903, is the larger of the two structures. Across the street is the hotel’s Bank building, housed in the old KAS Bank building. Both have unique design aesthetics and are sleekly appointed.

The 238 rooms are simple and not the most spacious, but they do feature every amenity that a luxury traveler would expect like flat-screen televisions and a great sound system. The Bank has more traditionally decorated rooms than the building, which is more contemporary.

Also found in the Bank building is the W FIT gym and the W Away Spa, whose treatment rooms are located in the bank's former vaults. X BANK is the hotel’s chic concept store that sells clothing, art, jewelry and design products from primarily Dutch designers. The on-property restaurant, The Duchess, is a hot spot serving French- and Italian-inspired cuisine and is open for lunch and dinner. The splendid dining room features original ornaments, a marble bar and vaulted ceilings.
