Nestled in the Grand Mazarin Hotel in the Marais, the menu here draws inspiration from Eastern European flavors, but the dishes—brisket paired with gnocchi, matzoh ball soup with prawns, gravlax with arak and mustard—are anything but traditional. Yet, Boubalé, Yiddish for “my little darling,” still evokes nostalgia and intimacy. The restaurant’s Slavic decor, crystal glasses and porcelain, and the lovely regional music add to the atmosphere. For dessert? Chocolate babka, of course — this decadent version with a scoop of ganache and a drizzle of olive oil.
