Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, is famous for its breakfast, which is served daily from 8 a.m. until noon. Climb the steps to the porch, open the screen door and step back 70 years to the time when Deetjen’s was founded by widowed Englishwoman Barbara Blake. The old wooden furniture, knick-knacks and doilies date the décor to the early 20th century, but the hearty servings of bacon, biscuits and blueberry pancakes have made this a favorite of families today. At dinner, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., comfort food is served against a backdrop of dim lighting and classical music. No reservations for parties fewer than six.
