Naguib Mahfouz Café

5, Sikket El Badistan Lane, Cairo

20-2-590-3788

The best place to eat in the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, Naguib Mahfouz Café draws lots of tourists. It is named for the Nobel Prize–winning author of Palace Walk, who reportedly ate here frequently before the attempted assassination on his life in 1994. Despite the tourist crowd, it retains an antiquated charm. The main restaurant, in the back, serves excellent Middle Eastern food, or you can get coffee or a snack in the front café.
