Obana

Unagi (freshwater eel) is the specialty at Obana, and despite its location in a somewhat less-visited section of Tokyo (a 20-minute drive from Ginza), the centuries-old restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who wants to try the best eel in Tokyo. Open since the Meiji Era, Obana is casual in ambience but serious about its cuisine: eel here is seasoned and grilled to perfection and served atop a bed of rice with a rich soy sauce–based dressing. The best time to go is for lunch, but show up on the early side, because Obana only accepts walk-ins and the line can get long.
