Just above the famous Cinque Torre (Five Towers) and the open-air museum of the Great War sits Rifugio Averau, a special restaurant that serves some of the best pasta in the Dolomites. The family-run rifugio faces spectacular views of the famous glacier Marmolada, known as the "Queen of the Dolomites," and features tables on an outdoor deck as well as inside. The specialty is the homemade pasta, which includes such special combinations as beetroot ravioli and carrot, and smoked ricotta or blue cheese and cinnamon gnocchi. They also offer great salads, cheese and meat plates, wiener schnitzel and steaks, but those in-the-know tend to opt for a selection of pasta. Save room for dessert as well, as the Prosecco Cake is unforgettable. Best to reserve in high season.
