The first in the Ron Gastrobar mini-empire, this restaurant was opened by Dutch chef Ron Blaauw in 2013, when the famed toque daringly closed his eponymous, two-Michelin-starred restaurant and opened Ron Gastrobar in its place. Aiming to create a more accessible dining environment, Blaauw redesigned the space and overhauled the menu with lower prices and smaller portions meant for sharing. Slightly off-the-beaten path on the southern edge of the Vondelpark, Ron Gastrobar is now a classic, and equally beloved for its delightful international cuisine (think wagyu steak with tarragon-sorrel cream and crispy potatoes or risotto with morels and a soft-cooked egg) and friendly, hip atmosphere.
