An international trading hub for centuries, Amsterdam has long been known for its fusion cuisine and boasts some of the best Asian restaurants in Europe. However, with the opening of Michelin-starred chef Ron Blaauw’s Ron Gastrobar Oriental in 2015, Chinese cuisine was thrust into the spotlight. Beloved by foodies, Ron Gastrobar Oriental offers indulgent cuisine in a seriously stylish space. The bi-level dining room features a mural of Hong Kong on one wall, velvet banquettes with zebra-print accent pillows, an open kitchen and gold chrome furnishings. The newspaper-style menu is filled with a dim sum selection, tapas-style appetizers including duck spring rolls with hoisin dip and rice vermicelli salad and heartier fare like the Peking duck for two and beef with pepper, coconut, black garlic and coriander. Adding to the lighthearted theme, menu items are marked with one, two or three Betty Boop icons to denote spiciness.
