You might think that the last venture that the wives of two of Dallas’ most famous chefs would undertake is opening a restaurant of their own, but that was how Shinsei, which means rebirth, was born. Lynae Fearing, who was married to Dean Fearing, and Tracy Rathbun, whose husband Kent owns Jasper’s and Abacus among others, teamed up to open a hip, happening Asian restaurant. “We wanted people to come and hang out,” explains Fearing of why there are lots of cozy couches and seating areas. In addition to a full sushi menu, the dinner menu includes such untraditional Asian dishes as lobster tacos with yellow tomato salsa; coconut chicken jalapeno poppers with curry dipping sauce; honey-chili glazed pork tenderloin with lychee rice and Dean’s Ooey Gooey Chicken with creamy scallion-whipped potatoes.
