This popular Astoria cantina run by chef Julian Medina has it's second location in Manhattan, but with a totally different menu. While the Astoria location employs a laid-back, friendly vibe, Medina knew he had to step it up to compete with the Hell’s Kitchen dining scene. He created a menu that ranges from Mexican and Cuban to Pan Latin, with a combination of creative and classic dishes like octopus tostada with chipotle butter, Oaxacan mole negro chicken enchiladas and birria con consome tacos. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, which is what locals love about it, and the front of the restaurant opens up in warmer weather. Reservations are helpful, but not always necessary.
