Andrew considers himself a true global citizen, thanks to his mix of Chinese and Japanese ancestry and his peripatetic lifestyle. He grew up in Singapore, was educated in England and Italy, and has worked in Paris for more than twenty years as a designer, first for Emanuel Ungaro. He opened his eponymous brand in 1996, and while his collections are now found in high-end specialty stores around the world, the best way to buy his clothes is in his private salon in the Marais. The light-filled space showcases his latest collections but also his sensibility as a collector with spectacular pieces including Venetian chandeliers that formerly hung in a Roman palazzo and a stunning floor-to-ceiling lacquered wall panel inspired by Whistler’s Peacock Room. His exquisitely made clothes celebrate artistic and regional influences. Some of my favorite pieces in my closet are his jackets with tribal motifs or Indian inspired embroidery and a silk dress printed with Japanese fans. By appointment only.
