Located in Chinatown, Kiriko Made has built a reputation on its fine craftsmanship and use of vintage boro fabric (Japanese textiles that have been patched together). The owners, Dawn Yanagihara and Katsu Tanaka, visit Japan often to procure the centuries-old textiles, which they craft into bags, ties, pocket squares and clothing back in their Portland studio. The beautiful boutique has rough wood floors and an open workshop, where visitors can watch the artisans crafting one-of-a-kind kimonos and jeans made with salvaged denim and lined with patterned Japanese fabric, which are intended to be worn cuffed.
