Throughout her childhood in Lausanne, Switzerland, Mercedes Assal was drawn into La Chocolatiere by the aromas of freshly melted chocolate, toasted nuts and perfectly spiced fruits. When founding chocolate maker Jean-Claude Currant announced that he planned to close La Chocolatiere, entrepreneurial Mercedes asked if she could become his apprentice, learn his secret recipes and take over the business. He agreed. Mercedes  has maintained La Chocolatiere's tradition and now shares her decadent homemade hot chocolate and Swiss truffles with an international audience. Visit the boutique to sample signature hot chocolate, a variety of chocolate "barks" and inventive marzipan—and contact Indagare for a private behind-the-scenes tour of their kitchen, located just below the storefront floor.
