Livraria Lello

Rumored to have inspired J.K. Rowling to write the Harry Potter books, Livraria Lello is an early-20^th-century Art Deco bookstore located near the University of Porto (where the beloved Harry Potter author taught before writing the books.) While many come just for the architecture and design (primarily the curving red staircase) this is a bookstore where you can purchase literary classics in Portuguese, English and French. They even have pocket sized classics like Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and The Little Prince featuring the bookstore’s very own cover design. Since being named one of the world’s most beautiful and special bookstores, Livraria Lello now requires visitors to buy a ticket to enter, but the fee is reimbursed for anyone who makes a purchase.
