Maak Lab (pronounced “make”) co-owners Anoria Gilbert and Taylor Ahlmark got their start in a studio at Beam & Anchor, where they produced their soy-based candles and soaps using natural, sustainable ingredients before setting up a proper shop in downtown Portland. The space is part-lab, part-boutique, and all the products are made on the premises. Drawing inspiration from the Pacific Northwest, the self-dubbed “urban apothecary” incorporates ingredients like cedar, Stumptown coffee and juniper berries from Portland’s nearby distilleries. Particularly fun are the Oregon mint hand towelettes.
