After he stumbled upon a deserted warehouse filled with cast-iron shade molds, Brian Faherty was inspired and launched Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. in 2003 with the aim of creating the next generation of heirlooms. With its headquarters and flagship shop in another old factory in Portland (there is a second outpost in NYC’s Tribeca), the lighting and housewares store sells extraordinarily unique pieces like analog clocks and early-20th-century antiques, as well as home needs, from tableware and art to office furniture and bath accessories. A visit to the warehouse, a stunning space that has been designed to a T, is a must for design lovers.
