The clue is in the name of course, but Britain’s old market towns all developed around a central market square. These public retail areas have waxed and waned over the years, but Stroud Farmers’ Market is a thriving example of the best local produce from the surrounding area selling straight to the consumer. There are no middle men, no hours in transport, just over sixty stalls spilling over with ripe fruit and vegetables, meats, and cheeses alongside cooked food and local crafts.
