This hidden gem of a shop, which occupies two stories and is packed to the gills with a wide variety of knick-knacks, is an antiques-lover’s dream. Housed in one of Ålesund’s few wooden buildings left standing after the devastating fire in 1904, Trankokeriet is set right on the water and has large windows overlooking the canal. Inside, it is teeming with curiosities ranging from the expected (jewelry, dishware, old records) to the more offbeat (an old diver’s helmet, wooden Nordic skis, decades-old nautical charts). Whether or not you purchase anything, the shop is a treat to explore, and there’s a small coffee shop inside.
