Argentine-born fashion designer and art collector Soledad Twombly founded L’Archivio di Monserrato in 2017. “It is a space that brings together my career as a designer; a collection of antique fabrics and works of art; and my aesthetics as a stylist and a home decorator,” she told Indagare founder Melissa Biggs Bradley in 2019. Visitors to the store step inside Twombly’s world of Italian craftsmanship. “They say there’s no place like home, but I’ve lived in many different cities in the world and rest assured, there’s really no place like Rome.”
Here, she shares where else to explore in the Eternal City.

Breakfast at home (occasionally I go to Forno Monteforte in Via del Pellegrino), reading international and Italian newspapers, and exercising.
For lunch with a local friend or family, I go to Da Cesare on Via del Pellegrino because it’s fresh, simple Italian food. With a friend from out of town, I like Ar Galletto because it’s in Piazza Farnese and one of the most gorgeous squares in Rome.
First-timers to Rome should see Galleria Borghese. For repeat visits…I like Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GNAM).
For first-time visitors, walk around and get lost. And for repeat visitors, more walks…I like walking from Via Monserrato to Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina because I pass by 2,000 years of Roman architecture.

You can’t go wrong with all the shops in Via Monserrato.
Go to Antica Libreria Cascianelli, a bookstore in Largo Febo. It sells rare copies of Roman art books.
