    10 Days: Essential Sri Lanka

Don’t try to squeeze everything into a single trip. Travelers should spend at least two if not three nights at each place because getting around is tiring, as is the tropical hot climate. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Days 1-4: Galle & Southern Coast

Get your bearings at this compact city on the southwestern coast. Full of Duch architecture and fabulous ramparts overlooking the Indian Ocean, Galle is an atmospheric spot for arriving in Sri Lanka. Venture beyond, and explore the coast with its palm-fringed beaches, rock temples and incredible bird life. Indagare-arranged activities can include kayaking excursions, yoga classes and a guided visit to a white tea plantation.

    • Days 5-7: Tea/Hill Country

Charter a sea plane to arrive in Tea Country and check into an exquisite hotel comprised of five restored planter’s bungalows. Excursions in this stunning area include hiking, biking and learning about Ceylon tea with an expert guide.

    • Days 8-10: Cultural Triangle

For those with limited time, the wealth of cultural sites in this region has to be ruthlessly edited. Must-sees are the ancient capital of Anuradhapura and the rock fortress at Sigiriya, one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed site. The mysterious caves at Dambulla, replete with impressive Buddha sculptures are another highlight.

“Sri Lanka was awesome. We particularly enjoyed the Tea Trails bungalow and the Aman hotel in Galle.”

“Especially during the first few days of a journey, when the tropical heat still makes your head swim, you find yourself continuously bowled over by the sum of it all: the air spiced with cardamom and cloves; the bursts of color (flowers, saris, the sea); the chorus of birds in the early morning, the sweat down your back by midday; the fragrant curries in the evening.”
