The Mykonos outpost of chef Ettore Botrini’s Michelin-starred Athens hot-spot serves one of the island’s most creative takes on fine-dining.

TheBuddha Bar restaurant, at the Santa Marina hotel, is ideally situated for star and yacht gazing with its commanding views over Ornos Bay. The wind-protected restaurant has an oyster bar for lunch, sushi for dinner and also offers plenty of more filling Mediterranean options. It’s chic, laid-back yet upscale ambiance works well for couples or families.

This is the antithesis of Nammos. A simple, authentic lunchtime restaurant, Fokos serves grilled seafood, meats, salads and light local dishes. Located on a secluded beach past the small village of Ana Mera, on the northeastern part of the island, Fokos is worth the drive.

This restaurant is on the southern part of the island in Agios Ionnios. It’s a buzzy lunchtime spot along the water. Sushi lovers might want to stroll next door to Hippie Fish’s Sushi Lounge with its pumping music and upbeat vibe. Sushi can also be delivered direct to one’s beach chair.

Set in a hidden garden off of Mattagianna Street in town (perfect for both windy and calm nights), Interni serves delicious cocktails and contemporary Mediterranean cuisine to attractive locals and tourists. The DJ turns up the volume on his clever mixes around midnight.

Located within a small courtyard off of Matogianni in Chora, Kalita serves excellent Greek cuisine in a sophisticated setting. Sleek wood and chrome tables are spread amidst palm trees and heat lamps and indoor seating is available for windy evenings.

Nestled away amidst trees and rocks by Agios Sostis beach is Kiki’s Taverna. This tiny spot which has no sign, no telephone and no electricity has achieved cult status. Lines start early so go at 1pm to get a table for lunch before the crowds. Both Agios Sostis and Panormos beach next door are really old-world, informal, non-glitzy beaches (ie opposite of Psarou). The restaurant on the beach at Panormos is also fun for lunch. But don’t go to either if it’s windy. Mykono’s prevailing wind comes from the north, which is where these beaches are.

Expect surprisingly (or not surprisingly?) delicious Greek-Japanese fusion food at Koursaros. Chef Take capitalizes on the region’s love of seafood with his sushi creations, while Chef Panagiotis Giakalis revamps classic Greek cuisine. The result: excellent dishes that honor two food-obsessed cultures while innovating them.

Matsuhisa Mykonos is one of the few alfresco outposts of this world-famous restaurant chain. Sample owner Nobu Matsuhisa’s  ‘New Style Japanese Cuisine’ under the stars overlooking the whitewashed village of Chora with the Aegean twinkling in the distance. It’s magical at night.

Nammos, the Nikki Beach of Mykonos, is a party scene best for the younger set. Dinner is much more civilized when the blaring music has been turned down and the crowds of sunbathers have finally left Psarou beach, revealing the pretty bay.

Located on one of Mykonos’ best beaches (on the western, less-populated side of the island), Solymar serves an elevated Mediterranean cuisine in a magnificent setting. Head for lunch if lounging at the adjacent beach club is desired.

This seaside restaurant is set in a cave on Kalafatis beach. The setting is stunning, very romantic. The menu consists mainly of seafood including mouthwatering lobster, and it's open for lunch and dinner.
