La Jolla by the Sea
A long flight of stairs up from the beach, La Jolla by the Sea is the neighborhood of roads and alleys that run parallel to the coastline. These streets feature storefronts with quality artwork and crafts, boutique clothing stores and beach restaurants. The Museum of Contemporary Art and surrounding neighborhood galleries are another draw to the area, which feature works of art inspired by the nearby sea (www.mcasd.org).
Little Italy Mercato
With more than 150 booths, the Little Italy Mercato is undoubtedly the mother of the city’s farmers markets. Shoppers can find every manner of family farm and artisanal bounty including olive oil, peaches, dates, cheese and more. A pint of blood-orange juice from Polito Farms and a basket of Pudwill berries are just two of the can’t-miss items on offer.

SoLo
This restored warehouse at the center of the Cedros Avenue Design District in Solana Beach showcases the work of eight creative women. Each designer has her own style and creations: look for indie cards and stationary from Carole Carden; colorful Mexican quilts from Ruby Lang; silver jewelry from Julie Price; wooden toys and children’s art from Sonya Kemp and bath and body care from Adrian Newell.
