Seaside Escape in Bali

Indagare member MSP, who is currently based in Bali, sent us this postcard from Nihi Sumba resort on the Indonesian island of Sumba.

We are just back from a week at Nihi Sumba, a resort on Sumba Island, which is a one-hour flight east from Bali. We brought our 7- and 10-year-old children and had the best family vacation we have ever experienced. The GM graciously and seamlessly oversees the resort, which is quite an accomplishment given its extremely remote location and the island’s lack of infrastructure. The villas were comfortable and beautifully furnished. Meals were delicious and served family-style, which we enjoyed as it allowed us to meet the other guests.

The main attraction is the incredible array of water activities for kids and adults. The beach has a world-class surf break and the resort thoughtfully limits the number of surfers to ten at a time so it is never crowded. Our kids loved surfing, jet skiing, tubing, snorkeling, fishing and spear fishing. The beach staff is outstanding–friendly, safety conscious and great with kids. I enjoyed the daily yoga and long walks on the pristine beach, which boasts fantastic shelling.

There are also lots of opportunities to visit or engage with the local villages through the Sumba Foundation (www.sumbafoundation.org), which was created by the owners of Nihi Sumba. The organization sponsors medical clinics, water projects, schools and other projects around the island. We can’t wait to return in the spring.
