Älpele
A cozy spot on snowy days, Älpele is perfect for lunch for cross-country skiers and walkers. Located about four miles outside Lech on the marked trail and a little under two miles after the village of Zug, the hideout serves some of the best hot chocolate in the area. For dinner, the restaurant can be reached by snowmobile or horse-drawn sled.
Alter Goldener Berg
The Goldener Berg is a cozy spot for homemade glühwein (mulled wine) as well as fondue and Austrian specialties. Request a table in the old part of the building; the restaurant’s stübli dates back to 1340.
Klösterle
Recommended for fondue and other delicacies, the Klösterle in Zug is owned by Hannelore Schneider of the Almhof Schneider. It’s a delightful spot to stop by in the afternoon after a romantic stroll or cross-country ski for savoring homemade Austrian delicacies. Klösterle opens at 2pm, so skiers can swing by midday for a hot chocolate and Austrian pastry and for fondue at night. (To reach the restaurant, ski down from Kriegerhorn in Lech on the Steinmähder run – at the bottom is a valley at the end of which is Klosterle). It’s best to book early because the small, popular spot is always busy.
Rud-Alpe
Schneggarei
Housed in a contemporary wooden barn, Schneggarei is a fun bar at the bottom of the main lift in Lech. The pizza is a particular favorite.
