Upon arrival in this port city, get your bearings with a guided walking tour of the historic center, including such monuments as the Cathédral de Bordeaux and the impressive Place de la Bourse. Strolling in the cool Chartrons neighborhood is a must for some shopping along Rue Nôtre-Dame, as are relaxed meals at authentic French bistros (our experts can lead you to the top tables). Music buffs should get tickets for a performance at the exquisite Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux.
On day two, have breakfast, then take a train or car to the Atlantic coast. The Bassin d’Arcachon is a gorgeous bay between the towns of Arcachon and Cap-Ferret, where many Parisians have second homes. Between the two, the main attraction is the Dune of Pyla, Europe’s largest sand dune and an impressive spectacle. Both Arcachon and Cap-Ferret are famous for their extreme tides and oysters. After visiting the dune, take a boat to Cap Ferret and have lunch at Le Bouchon du Ferret, a seafood market and restaurant.
After checking into a quintessential French country escape, book time at a world-renowned spa and relax in the beautiful garden setting.
