If you only have time for one plantation tour in Charleston, make it Boone Hall. Revealing the history of the southern plantation as well as Gullah culture, Boone Hall provides a multi-faceted look at plantation life. At the end of a long drive lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss, the elegant Georgian mansion is a gracious sight to behold. The property has played host to multiple blockbuster films and TV shows, such as The Notebook and Days of our Lives. Set on one of America’s oldest farms, visitors can see the expansive property that still produces cotton, pecan, berries and vegetables. Don’t miss the Gullah presentation, which shows what life was like as a slave on the plantation or the detailed Black History in America exhibit that is housed inside nine former slave cabins.
