Their Foodie Cheat Sheet

Broka:

“Not only for its food but for the space in an old Porfirian house in Roma Norte area.”

Elly’s: “Where New Yorker Elly Fraser and Mexican Andrés Herran rethink Mexican gastronomy in a wonderful 1930s house.”

Taller Xilotl: “A tiny sea food restaurant which just opened which showcases the talent of young Mexican chefs.”

Estiatorio Nostos: “It’s certainly a scene. The upscale spot is all open-air with grand olive trees between tables and serves an incredible spread of beautifully prepared Mediterranean/Greek food. The service is also incredible.”

L’Osteria del Becco: “This Polanco restaurant serves some of the best Italian food I have ever had, including a truffle beef tartare I will never forget.”

The Art Stops

“The National Museum of Anthropology is an absolute must. Seeing the murals of Diego Riviera in the Palacio Nacional is another.”

For a maximum flavor, minimum frills experience

“Completely out of the hype, there are many typical family businesses which offer simple, genuine, typical and excellent food. I love Teoixtla (Zacatecas 59, Roma Norte) for the traditional Mexican stew pozole in all its forms; 1950s classic cantina Bar El Sella (Dr. Balmis 210, Doctores; barelsella.com.mx) for its El Chamorro, a slow-cooked beef shank; and Le-Lah-Tho (Av. Patriotismo 456, San Pedro de los Pinos) which serves specialty dishes from the Yucatán.”

The Art and Design Meccas

For home design, Onora Casa by Maggie Galton and María Eladia Hagerman. We also love AGO Projects by Rudy Weissenberg and Rodman Primack, a fantastic gallery for contemporary design which definitely thinks out of the box. Also, A_G Studio by Andres Gutierrez, who just opened a gallery where he shows his own designs and a curation of incredible designers from all over the country. And for art galleries, OMR and Kurimanzutto are a must.”
