Review

Leaving the busy Roman streets and climbing the hotel’s grand staircase, it is immediately evident that Palazzo Vilòn is a one-of-a-kind property. In the 1670s, architect Carlo Rainaldi and theatrical designer Giovanni Grimaldi built it if for none other than the Borghese family, which still occupies part of the palace complex to this day.  At the time, the palazzo’s ornate, baroque interior spaces were considered some of the most beautiful in all of Rome. And 350 years on, that’s still very much the case, thanks to a  meticulous restoration of frescoes, ornate ceilings and intricate gilded woodwork—a testament to the vision of the owner, film producer Pietro Valsecchi and hospitality company Shedir Collection, which also operates Capri Tiberio Palace.

The two opulent suites and one bedroom are adorned with antique furniture, original artwork and luxurious fabrics. Modern bathrooms with fine Sodalite marble finishes have been incorporated in the historic building. Both suites overlook the Palazzo Borghese’s Cembalo Gardens, and the sound of the nearby fountains can be heard through the open windows. A fourth smaller bedroom is available for a nanny or other staff member. Although primarily designed for buy-outs, it may be possible to book individual suites depending on availability.

As befits the setting, butler service is provided 24 hours a day. A large lower-level spa includes a swimming pool, sauna, gym, Turkish bath, and massage and spa treatment rooms. The Palazzo Vilòn is located across the private gardens from the Hotel Vilòn, a 17-suite property also from the Shedir Collection, and a convenient overflow option if your group requires more than three rooms. Palazzo Vilòn guests have access to the amenities of the hotel, including the Adelaide Restaurant, with its classic Italian cuisine. Private meals, events and special occasions can be catered at the Palazzo Vilòn.
