Now run by a family of hoteliers, the Singer Palace was built in 1930 as the Rome headquarters of the Singer Sewing Company. Opened as a hotel in 2018, it’s a more intimate boutique alternative to the city’s flashier hotels by well-known brands.

Review

Tucked away on a side street just off the bustling Via del Corso, a few blocks away from the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, the Singer Palace underwent a three-year renovation and opened in 2018. Though the Visocchi family isn’t a household name, they are experienced hoteliers who run the Hotel Chiaia di Luna on the island of Ponza and the Silva Splendid Hotel in Fiuggi, a town about 90 minutes from Rome known for its natural springs and spa resorts. When transforming the building into a hotel, they made sure to preserve the original architectural details, including the carved marble plaque in the lobby, Art Deco doors and the floating marble staircase with Bakelite details in the curved metal balustrade. The interior décor, however, is plush and modern, with graphic accents and velvet cushions. Rooms are outfitted with all the comforts you’d expect of a five-star hotel, including espresso machines, soundproof windows (important considering the location), and luxurious bathrooms stocked with bath products by Ortigia.

The lobby is quite small, with just a reception desk and a couple of sofas, so if you want a place to unwind, head upstairs to the fifth-floor lounge or Jim’s Bar on the sixth floor. For lunch and dinner, the Terraces Restaurant serves Roman classics and seasonal Mediterranean dishes, like sensational pappardelle with porcini mushrooms. Guests appreciate the a la carte breakfast—included in all room rates—with hot and cold dishes made to order, plus unlimited coffee, juice, and prosecco.

Who Should Stay

The hotel is great for travelers who want an intimate, cozy little oasis to return to in the bustling heart of Rome, but not so great for those seeking a see-and-be-seen vibe.
